Conely's Chapter 3

  • Teachers should not just hold the children accountable for Textbook knowledge, but Standard-Based knowledge also. As teachers, we should incorporate both types of approaches in our teaching.
  • Question: How will I incorporate both approaches when teaching, and not rely on the textbook to teach my students what they need to know.
  • Teachers are to build on what the students know when we are getting ready to assess them, therefore we are able to see what knowledge the students already have so that we can teach them new material.
  • As beginning teachers, we are to plan and teach or lessons after we asses what they already know.
  • Teachers are to incoporate resources into the lessons we are teaching such as, tradebooks, DvDs, videos, websites, games, and even puzzles.
  • We are also to include people outside of the classroom such as, parents.
  • We are to motivate our students to learn, this makes the learning more meaningful.
  • Question: What is a teacher to do when there is a student that needs more time in the classroom to finish work?
  • Provide the students with different strategies for the students to use. This will help the students learn better.
  • Always remember to asses the students learning.
